Choosing a 4 camera kit

Four cameras usually covers the front door, the drive, the back door and the garden. Walk every way onto the property before you buy, because side returns and flat roofs add to the count. If you land on five or six, look at the 8 camera kits instead.

The 4/8 kits come with a four-channel recorder as standard and an eight-channel upgrade on the kit page, so you can start with four cameras and leave room for more. The hard drive is a line on the kit page: add one there, or leave it out and fit your own. The IP kits offer Cat5e cable for each camera, and the analogue kits offer plug-and-play RG59 with power cores.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 4 camera kit enough for a house?

For many houses, yes. Most end up with four to six cameras. If you count more than four, choose the eight-channel recorder now, because swapping the recorder later means setting everything up again.

Does the kit include a hard drive?

The drive is an option on the kit page, not part of the starting price. Add one there, or leave it out if you already have a drive to fit.

Can I add cameras later?

Yes, up to the number of channels on the recorder. A four-channel recorder takes four cameras, so take the eight-channel upgrade if you think you will add more.
